The beautiful patterns of dappled sunlight under the mizuki dogwood tree (Cornus controversa) form a natural work of art, and create a tranquil atmosphere to relax in.
The leaves of the mizuki dogwood are large, with no teeth along the margins. The undersides of the leaves are white, and the top surface changes from green to yellow as autumn deepens. The leaf veins stand out very clearly and are perfect for nature study. The side veins start off heading towards the margins, but curve upwards towards the leaf tip. These characteristic side veins are common to many species in the Dogwood Family.
Beautiful blue mizuki fruits with red stalks (vicinity of Sukayu Onsen in Aomori Pref). A fascinating legend regarding these fruit stalks is told in the Tohoku Mountains.
